A scam to pretend to be from a child asking for money

Hi mum scam

This number belongs to a scammer. They pretend to be a family member who has, for some reason, had to change phone numbers. Ultimately they want you to pay several thousand dollars into an account that they give you, and they will pay you back, in two days time!

I tend to string these people along and waste their time, meanwhile I check the account number and contact the relevant bank in the hope that they may be able to close the account down, or at least lock it, and get the police involved.
The accounts are usually with an Australian bank, so, in my opinion, the banks should be doing more to stop their bank from being used for this sort of criminal activity.
