They have a call system that shows a phone number that appears.

I get a lot of scam calls so I thought this was one too but actually it's one of several potential numbers that is displayed when an uber driver uses the app to phone a customer that is waiting.

Of course sometimes scammers spoof numbers so if you (or anyone who uses your uber account) gets a call from this number when you aren't waiting on for a driver to show up then obviously proceed with caution.
