Message saying new number because of water damage to old phone calling me mum Then says they are short of money to urgently pay s couple of bills and say they will send details of bank because they cant access online banking

Received one of those scammer texts "Water-damage has messed up my old phone, it will not turn on this is my new phone number Mum. Could you text me back if you received this message?"

Caller: A Water Damage Scammer..the Hey Mum Scam "Water-damage has messed up my old phone, it will not turn on this is my new phone number Mum. Could you text me back if you received this message?" When do they ever give this up and what are the Telcos doing to help stop these scams

I believe someone using this number with a WhatsApp account tried to scam me when I was selling an item on Gumtree using a classifieds scam as reported here. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-04/selling-something-online-beware-the-scam-buyer/101824012
