Yet another ‘Linkt’ scammer!

Scam scam scam = DELETE delete delete!

By the look of it is a scam. My wife got this sms just minutes ago. Myself and my wife did travel on CityLink in Melbourne the day before yesterday and about 2 weeks ago. In both instances I (not my wife) have paid the toll online using my debit card within 5 days that CityLink allows and got confirmation emails of doing so. (Two weeks ago I paid after 3 days).

Now, the interesting bit:

How could the scammer know that my wife have travelled on that toll road?

The car is registered in my name and I paid the toll fee using my card (not a joint bank account). Until several months ago we had a 3rd party insurance on this vehicle. The policy was under my wife's name and I was a secondary driver registered with that insurance company.

So, unless it is a very unlikely coincidence (my wife happend to get this sms shortly after travelling on the toll road) the scammer must have got hold of some information that would link my car to my wife. The only such information is the void insurance policy from several months ago (we did not renew the insurance at all).
