Person/s unknown impersonating my son asked to message via what's app. I believed 16 Dec 22 to 6 Jan 23 that I was genuinely communicating with my son. SMS originally stated new number for refurbished phone. Plausibly asked a favour as old phone can't do phone/internet banking. Sent credit card details. Total over $400. When they neither responded to my query on what's app nor answered phone call/SMS, I contacted son via another number only to be informed that no, he had not asked for assistance nor has a whats app account. Immediately cancelled card. Are people listening to conversations/hacking residential phones? A clever scam and very annoyed with myself for falling for it
