Immediately set off red flags. Man with an Indian accent claimed to be calling from Commonwealth Bank's HQ and stated that my account was accessed from California but, because it was a new location and my usual access is from Sydney, they blocked the transaction and called me first to confirm it was me. Sounded incredibly urgent. Then claimed it was a remote access attempt by scammers who somehow got my account details since they apparently changed my IP address and he needed to walk me through how to protect my account. Set off far too many red flags to seem legitimate so I hung up before he could walk me through the steps to "protect" my account. I called my bank for verification and it was, indeed, a scam. They said you will never receive an out-of-the-blue phone call from them - it would only follow a text or push notification asking if you were the one that had made the transaction or accessed the account - and they would never ask you to check your IP address, particularly googling anything. 100% a scam. But very easily believable if you didn't know better.
