I received a text msg from this number, inquiring on my iMac I had for sale on Gumtree. He asked what my lowest price was, I said $1000 and he was quick to agree and ask if he could pick it up straight away.
I said I lived on the coast, and he apparently lived in Gympie.
He said he would get in touch with his friend to see if they would drive down and pay and pick up the iMac.
The following morning I was in touch with him and he said his friend didn't have the cash to outlay. I suggested for him to pay through my paypal account. He offered to transfer the money directly into my account and said he would send through a copy of his online banking receipt. He did this and msg'd me his receipt. It all looked to be normal.
His friend then got in touch with me and came by to pick up the iMac in the afternoon. As it was a long weekend, I gave this guy benefit of the doubt and waited nearly the whole week for his payment to be in my account. The following weekend still nothing. I had msg'd the guy a few times during the week, but had not received a reply.
I called him and it went straight to msg bank.. with a greeting saying - f*ck Off
I knew instantly I had been scammed. :(
Gumtree sellers, please be weary of these scammers.. I'm down $1000 and have no iMac.. I'm absolutely devastated.. I'm not sure if I'll ever get to find this scum.. but I do hope he has it coming to him..
