Caller: Allegedly NBN Co Technical Department then Security Team Received a phone call from this number on 1 July 2021
Caller was in a 'Call Centre' environment based on background noise
Caller had a sub-continent accent and identified himself as John from the NBN Co Technical Department
Caller advised that they had received a report from my NBN router in the last few days that had said my internet was of poor connection.
Requested that I open a browser 'www.speedtest.net' I provided fake details for download / upload and ping
He said he had to go away and look at the records to see what my system should be. After a 20 seconds on silent hold he returned and advised that my optimal speeds should be much higher and we would now need to download an app from the App Store on my fake 'iPad' called AnyDesk
I asked if he was from iPrimus - he said no the NBN Co provides technical support to all of Australia and NZ on behalf of all telco companies.
I asked whether it mattered that I didn't have NBN access - he said no that did not matter as they could provide technical support for all internet solutions.
I then held him up with dithering talk before I called him out - he hung up immediately.
