I recently placed an advertisment on Gumtree Perth wanting to buy a particular model boat. The first propmt reply, scammer sent sms saying he had same for sale in great condion. I asked his location - scammer sms back - Bunbury. next I sms reply - What is your price? - scammer sms reply - matched price i'm offering in my ad. There was a same model boat listed for sale in Bunbury at twice price. I "thought" maybe the same? Next was a detailed description of the boat. Next scammer asks for a deposit to set a viewing date - reason someone came to view and stole his $80k motorcycle. Clearly a scam. I decided to offer full payment as a ruse. When asked for his name, bsb account details the scam reply sms, was just a question mark - An AI scam I suspect

Caller: J Towney

This J. Towney as he or she calls itself, rang my phone and tried to sell me goods ($150) I asked for in a Wanted Ad on Gumtree, which they don’t have as they sent pics that were not even remotely close to my request.
Their cell is 0405 231 708 and claimed to be from Park Ridge Qld.
I have copy of our conversation from this evening, Sat night 14/6/25.

Man saw my WANTED and on Gumtree for a certain numbered car part and didnt have a clue what it was or looked like ergo SCAMMER, but was eager for my bank details or me DD to his bank.
