Caller: Fake Telstra Technician ‘Shaun/David’ Received a phone call to my mobile from this number. Call took a few seconds to connect then I was greeted with ‘Sean/Shaun’, a ‘Telstra technician’. He proceeded to say that there were problems with my NBN and that it is being hacked. To check if I have been hacked he asked if I was using an iPhone or Android… then he said to go to Safari and type in ‘Validator’ and then to type in any social media website I use. I said to him that I didn’t believe he was calling on behalf of Telstra as I could not see any affiliation with Telstra on this Validator website… he insisted that Telstra is a ‘partner of Validator’. (Yeah right) Then Sean/Shaun said to ‘hold on’ and transferred the call to ‘David’. I said to him that I would ‘no longer like to continue the call’ and he immediately said to me ‘go to hell madam, that is a better place for you!’ I replied, ‘Excuse you!’ To which he responded, ‘not excuse me, excuse you. Go to hell madam.’ So I hung up. I had no intention of giving any information, but wanted to see how far they would push…
From previous experience, these callers intend to gain access to a computer or phone using remote access websites/apps. Eg. Anydesk or TeamViewer. They will then have full access to your passwords and accounts!
Best to end the call and block the number.
