Caller: Definitely scam

Anything that tells you they have info, but they're a machine that doesn't even know your name, is a scam. If it then says to choose between English and Chinese or Mandarin, is definitely another sign it's a scam. They're just trying to find people worried it might not be a scam. They don't know who you are unless you tell them, they don't have information about you, they're just ringing every number there is. Dont worry, it is a scam, END THE CALL. This number is being used for one of these scams.

Caller: Gov scam

Answerphone saying the government has info I need, press 1 for English, 2 for Chinese. You know these are a scam because 1. They always use the same fake promise of information, 2. The government doesn't call through an answering message, 3. They don't even know your name so why would they call you if they don't know who you are, 4. It's always English and Chinese because most speak English here but I've heard Chinese are more likely to fall for it, perhaps due to not seeing these spam reports enough in their own language or maybe because of fear travellers have of missing important information. Please, if you are unsure of a message like this, Google search "government scam". I did that once for a real estate scam and found an exact copy of the rental scam letter they were trying to use on me, including that I was the answer to their prayer and they just needed my ID so they could send the keys - using fake photos they'd stolen from a previous ad. How dare people keep trying to steal your ID and money, it's so awful people are so cruel to each other. Stay safe and take care, especially of anything suspicious.
