Caller: Scammer RE: Mum/Dad scam; SMS received 26 May 2023 @7:22am AWST time from another mobile; asking victim to WhatsApp this number (61 402 753 491)
The scammer that sends the text/sms claiming to daughter/son and asking parent (“Mum” in this case) with the usual trigger words: ‘urgency’ ‘bank has locked bay account’ ‘I need to pay a debt’ ‘I only have data so please message me on whatsapp (on a different mobile number)’
The scammer used a two mobile number method of scamming: Another mobile 0431 093 196 (used for the scam SMS) and WhatsApp mobile 61 402 753 491 (this number report here) is used for the victim to message the scammer
It reads: “Yellow mum, My phone doesn’t work so im using a spare. I need to talk to you urgently. The bank have locked by account and i need to pay a debt. But i only have data so please message me on WhatsApp on 61xxxxxxxxx”
This scam and two associate mobile numbers have been reported to scamwatch on the morning of 26 May 2023
