Claim to be Optus. However, their first question was "how much are you paying now?" Being an existing Optus client, they should already know this info.

I actually rang optus to verify if they are making marketing calls and if the plans offered were legit, turns out they are. They said they sometimes use offshore telemarketing for plan upgrades as well as the mix of people in call Australia based call centers. They said if you want to be sure, give them your phone number and that should be enough for them to bring up you other details to confirm.
So yes they are annoying, and they are automated calls hence if you don't pickup or you hangup it will redial you automatically the next day or two, that also why somtimes it takes a few seconds for them to answer, the system detects that someone picks up and allocates a rep to recieve the call, but it isn't a scam.

Same experience. I am currently with Optus. He claimed to be from Optus, then wanting to know how much I spent. Claimed he was from the Optus 'Upgrade' department so he can't see my bill. Hung up rudely without saying goodbye when he realised I wasn't going to fall for his scam . I am surprised Optus hasn't chase them and take legal actions. They are ruining Optus' reputation.

They have rang me every day for weeks!! I spoke to them and they said it was about saving me money with Optus blah blah. I told them I am not with Optus. I'm with Telstra and on a contract. Which is true. Yet they still keep ringing. I told one of the next guys the same thing, and asked why they keep calling. He apologised and was very nice. now I just got another call yet again. I've blocked the number now, they just don't take no for an answer.
