My contract is up for renewal that number rang me yesterday, I missed it, but they haven't called back
Steve
Hi whocallsme fans, What happened to me: I got a call from (03) 9982 8802 this afternoon on my mobile. The lady on the other end explained she was a representative from OSIS, or at least I think the name was OSIS AND that she was calling on behalf of OPTUS. She offered to HELP ME renew my service contract with OPTUS, offering a new modem, magazine subscriptions etc. all I had to provide was all my personal details - recorded by them in my own voice. She was very confident and assuring - I on the other hand was getting just a little suspicious. I asked her to call back later (which she did) and in the meantime called OPTUS. No surprises there - 1 ) they'd never heard of OSIS 2) OPTUS absolutely does not engage third party companies to manage customer accounts 3) I was thanked for the information which would be forwarded to thier own security department. It appears IT IS a sophistcated SCAM the point of which is IDENTITY THEFT !!!!*****BEWARE*****BEWARE*****BEWAREI don't know if it will do any good but I waited for the call back and confronted the caller. I told them point blank that I had called OPTUS and I knew they did not represent OPTUS, which of course they denied. I persisted, telling them I did not believe them and not to call again.:-) Good rule of thumb to survive the Digital Age - DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE UNLESS 1) You called them AND 2) You are certain of thier identityIt's NOT unreasonable folks. Bye for now

I got a call this morning from an ocis rep who was telling me my current deal had already expired and as I have two services provided by Optus I would get subscriptions to two magazines for a year if I renewed and that he would draw up a new contract for me. It was a terrible line and had to get him to repeat everything. I said no then called Optus and their person told me that they wouldn't contact customers in this way and that my plans have no expiry date, and they rely on customers either requesting a plan change on the phone or responding to a mailshot. So if anonymous is right then it seems a classic case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.

I actually have a friend who works for this company, it's OCIS not OSIS. (oceanic customer interactive services) an australian based and owned company with 2 overseas centeres in Fiji and new Zealand. It is a 3rd party outsourced company who handles the bulk of Optus's recontracting work, and inbound Optus sales overflow.
They prodominanty call customers at the end of their contract and remind them they are eligible for a new phone/plan or other loyalty offers.
No more a scam than getting a call directly from Optus trying to get you to renew your agreement.
I think you all need to calm down just a little, your identity can't be stolen with a name and date of birth id check (which is done for your own safety, to male sure it is the account holder who is agreeing to the renewal)
