They use a automated dialling system, that dials several numbers at the same time. It only connects to the first to answer, that's why you get beep or no answer.
The do not call Register does not stop Charities or Scammers. But it does stop unsolicited telephone marketing (except charities and political parties and surveys).
So the DNC Register is not useless.
In this case, either do not answer, and/or do not say YES or NO.

What is the point of the do not call register?

If the person/people with this number are legitimate (as identified by some), then they should NOT call and hang up when you answer. For this reason alone, they should be marked as a scam call.

They say they are a charity doing surveys, and proceed to ask a series of questions regarding which charities you might like to support. Your answer can be 'yes, no, maybe'. When I eventually asked whether they were after financial support, and that I couldn't give them any, she thanked me and didn't bother completing the survey.

These people are pests. Why can I not be able to block these callers?

Asked for Mrs Britain. When I said that was not me asked me to complete a charity survey. I said no and hung up

My home phone is now on answer machine all the time...genuine friends and callers will leave a message....scammers just hang up after 2-3 rings.

These f*cken knobs keep ringing and hanging up on me. Try to call them back they are engaged. f*cktards.

As in many above, multiple calls, no answer. I have had the number blocked and from now on will not answer unidentified calls. If they are legitimate they will leave a message and can be called back. Do not call is effective as we rarely get unsolicited calls from businesses but mainly charities which are not blocked.

Check your phone account as calls FROM a CHARITY cost you $1.50 each time.

caller asked to speak to owner said i will get them then sat phone down and walked away hung up phone 15 minutes later no one there (maybe scam but at least i wasted there time)

Three times today called and said nothing

Calling every day. Never anyone there. My neighbour is getting them too - same time each day even though we are both on DNC register. Reporting to Telstra to see if they can stop them at source

Do not call register is a waste of time
