Caller: A party working on behalf of Vodafone Not a scam call as such but I think it is a company trying dodgy ways to make sales. This was a call from "the billing department at Vodafone" claiming they were offering a 45% discount on my plan. Why would they do that? Usually when I get a call from Vodafone, they will ask me for my 4 digit pin and I always give out a wrong pin to see if it's wrong, so I did that in this case and they said it was wrong so then I gave them the correct one and they accessed all my information. I believe this is a third party company that contracts to Vodafone to upsell products. The lady with an obvious indian accent then transferred me to her supervisor. "Shaun" or "Sean" (his strong Indian accent told me that his name was not that) took the call. Then they said they would apply the discount and that's all... Except that he could see that I had a plan with 4 services on it, which is correct, he then told me the last few digits of all those services which were also correct and he said that because I've been with Vodafone to such a long time (also correct) they would send me a free gift which could be anything from a phone to a tablet, they didn't know what it was. He also said that the gift would first have to be sent to their warehouse for activation and scanning before it was sent to me. While still on the phone to "Shaun" I received a text message which said I had just ordered an iPhone 14 plus 128gb (I would never order an iPhone) and that I needed to reply with a code that was within the same text message to the same the same number (all these are things I had to do when I changed my plan with Vodafone about a year ago btw), so I did. I had a reply immediately from Vodafone with a link to track the phone (all legitimate too). This text message contained the address of the warehouse were the phone needed to be delivered first 114/9D Terry Road, Rouse Hill, NSW 2155. I googled it while on the phone to "Sean" and I saw that it is an apartment in a residential area, not a warehouse. So that's when I said let stop this and I will call Vodafone myself to check the veracity of the call, to which the guy reluctantly agreed to but saying that this offer was exclusive to the billing department and that they won't be able to see it. So I called Vodafone and after some investigation, it looked like I got sold a new phone and the reminder debt one of the phones we are already paying for, was going to be deleted and I was going to pay for the new phone which was meant to be "absolutely free" and everything was going to work out to be around the same price.
