Call today from this number resulted in a long silence. Because I am in a poor service area, I said "Hello, is anyone there" several times. Finally there was a recorded message that my bank account was to be debited $99.99 for a purchase from Amazon (which I haven't used). This has to be spam. As to what they are trying to achieve, I can't tell, but the following come to mind:
a) simply confirming that the number is active and the owner will answer, which is saleable info, OR
b) they are hoping that the recipient will try to ring them back and be redirected to a spam call operator, OR
c) to collect a voice sample, espec as the recorded message came immediately after my 3rd voice response, and I had waited a fair while between responses. There are now fraudulent uses for stolen voices.
