These guys have tried to call me many times from numbers beginning with (03) 9125 11**. I've been blocking all landline interstate calls for years but they still keep trying. Sometimes I've answered wtih the 2nd SIM card in my phone just to see what scam they're using and according to that and the other reviews, it's the same stuff you've heard many times - "your internet will be cut off in one hour!! Press One (to prove you're that gullible)" or "have you heard about the solar energy rebates?" or tax department, or there's suspicious activity on some account you don't have, and so on.
When they repeatedly can't get through on the landline then later in the week they try calling from a fake mobile number. According to published info they are using "spare numbers" inc. some starting with 0498 etc. Out of curiosity, I answered one and told them this number is on the Do Not Call Register, so I know you're not calling from a legitimate Australian Business or you would have checked that first. Some scammers start apologising hastily and swear to take you off their list, and I think some actually do avoid contacting you if you tell them this, but of course some don't care. If you they can't get through for long enough they just sell your number with thousands of others to the next scammer call centre boiler room, and the next Indians may or may not care about the Do Not Call Register. It's just pot luck who you get
I use an app called Calls Blacklist Pro, apps like this can block all calls from numbers that aren't in your contacts list. That one and some others can also block numbers starting with certain digits. I was getting Wangiri scam calls from many overseas numbers, so I blocked anything starting with country codes like +4*, +3* etc. Also, for example I don't live in Queensland so I block anything starting with (07). When they get blocked a few times they sometimes start calling from many, many different area codes trying to get through, so for a week or two you get more attempted fraud calls than ever, but then it slows down. First to one a week, then after a couple of months it's one every 2 weeks, then even less but they never totally stop. Just keep blocking them, there is NO reason to talk to these scum
