This phone number seems to have been switched to a new scam from the Australian Taxation Office. I hung up as soon as I heard it.

Caller: purporting to be telstra technician

this guy almost had me believing him: he gives a name: Max Francis and an address for Telstra- 242 exhibition st Melbourne, gives an ID and name says he is a Telstra technician and needs to access my computer as they have noticed overseas hackers trying to access my very old internet connection. gave a phone number- (03) 9018 7338. I said I'd call back but he kept insisting my internet is at risk if I don't do as requested. I didn't.

" ... standard case ...file under your name for tax fraud " and left a message to press 1 or call back on (02) 80007 4638 as there is a warrant against me and this is a final warning.

Caller: Said his name was Ashton Grey (Indian accent)

Told me that he was from Telstra and that my internet was slow and that he wanted me to fix it. Had to google Telstra speed check for him and give him the reading, then he wanted me to put in an address that would give him remote access to my computer. Told him that someone was at the door and could I call him back. He gave me the number (03) 9018 7338. I

An Indian sounding guy called my landline (rarely used). I normally hang-up on these 'hard to hear' Internet calls but he caught my attention by saying he was calling from Telstra, that I needed to eliminate Internet problems on my computer. (A good line as many people have Interent connection problems in both pre/post NBM era we are in). I agreed for him to go through a series of technical steps on my computer. He came over as having good technical knowledge, almost believable! He gave his name: James Wilson and an address for Telstra- 242 exhibition st Melbourne, gave an Employment Number (TB-84430) and said he is a Telstra technician and needs to access my computer as they have noticed overseas hackers trying to access my computer.
He stepped me through the process of searching for 'eventvrw' via LH bottom corner Windows icon on screen, clicking on Custom Views, then under Administration Events, do a Right click, which opened up a page which showed over 12000 events (all warnings & errors). It seemed convincing that this guy knew something I did not know. He then said I need to Google search 'teamviewer'. At this point, Alarm Bells rang (louder than before!) as I happen to know this would give him control to access my computer & make changes to it, download files, upload files etc. VERY DANGEROUS if you dont know or trust ther person doing this. He then suggested I search for another similar product, which I also refused.
I requested his phone number so I could call to verify he was from Telstra or not!
After about 30 seconds delay (when I could hear Call Centre backgropund noise), he gave a phone number- (03) 9018 7338. I told I was not prepared to waste any more time (about 20 mins), & I hung up. I did not call the number back as it felt like a crazy scam experience.

Caller: "Alex Gray"

Male Indian accent, bit slow in rate and halting in manner: "You are the main user of the internet at your place, right?...There is a problem with your internet for the last 2 days. Your internet will not work for the next 2 hours. I need you to cooperate with me...Your name is Mary (not so - when I asked who he wanted to speak to). Much background noise of other similar-sounding voices and conversation theme. I told him I could not hear him properly and to repeat himself. He hung up on me abruptly.
