Similar issue, answered a call on mobile, no one was talking. When called back, went directly into message bank.

How did this person know my name? I think I was rude to him. Only answered cause I'm waiting on a call from the hospital - thought it might have been them.

Answered the phone but it simply dropped out. No one there either!

Called my mobile on 11 Jan 17. I answered, but no one was on the line. Pretty sure some telemarketer - been getting a lot of electricity 'deal' calls lately.

Power bill compare company, blocked!

Said they were a community service offering to save me money on my electricity. When I asked him to remove my number from their list they just hung up. Scam sales.

Offer discount, I said not interested in the polite way, then he hang up on me right away before I even finished, rude!

Compare savings or some other BS name the guy said. He went on about savings on power. Told him I just did that last week (true) and my current one is the cheapest. Thanks but no thanks. Guy went on and on in the end I just said, "Which part of NO do you not understand?" and I hung up. I KNEW it was a spammer. Blocked this number on my mobile. I suggest you do so too.
