Caller: Scam Call Centre

Scam caller trying to impersonate PayPal, telling you they have stopped a fraudulent transaction. I strung them a long for a while to see what their game was and gave them a bunch of fake details. They want your email address address first, and then your credit card number. They'll then send you a text message from the same number that PayPal uses for one time login verification codes, so if you have previous messages from PayPal, you'd think the one they send is legit as it appears in the shame thread. I had them on the line for a good 40 minutes pretending I was an old person who didn't know anything, kept asking them to repeat things and gave them false numbers (the Mastercard Developers web site has a handy list of test card numbers that pass validation checks). The scammer was extremely frustrated when they realised they had been mislead and ended the call in anger. It was actually quite entertaining. Great way to pass time while I was on the train anyway.
