Caller: (03) 7076 1272 Total scam, pretending to be from PayPal.
It was a pretty good scam - they have my name, email address and phone number, I guess from some kind of data breach. And so he called and said they were PayPal and my account had suspected fraudulent activity, and he provided me with all of this information about me - my name (spelled it out carefully), double checked my email address and phone number etc. and then claimed that in order to cancel my paypal account, I’d need to authorize it. So I got an automated message while on the phone with him, from PayPal, with a 6 digit code that he asked me to read to him. That is obviously something you should never do, and no one legitimate would ever ask you to do! It would have allowed him to then reset the password on my PayPal account, blocking me from accessing it, and giving him full control. (I hung up)
So beware!
