Posted on January 26, 2026 Caller type: Scam call Location: Australia
Caller: DSD Cybercrime Unit (allegedly) The caller said he was DCI Andrew Stevens from the Defence Signals Directorate’s Cybercrime Unit.
This was more sophisticated than any scam call I’ve received for a long time. Not Indian or Filipino.
A few minutes into the call, he allegedly sent me an email from the Cybercrime Unit. The email was legitimate (passed DKIM, SPF and DMARC). I later figured out he did that by submitting a fake report under my name.
He already had my first name, last name and email address. He said my details had been found on devices recovered in relation to an arrest. He wasn’t asking me for any personal details at first. However, he started pushing for information about which crypto trading platforms and hardware wallets I use. I said I’d gather that info after the call. When I told him that, to be honest, I’m not even sure if this call is legit, he hung up.
