Caller: debt collection agency, chasing afterpay debt Yeh it's the debt collectors who recover unpayed afterpay debts. Block the number, report it as spam. And as its outsourced by afterpay, and the debt often under $2k, all you really need to do is tell them that you "deny that any debt is owed". Collectors are prohibited from attempting to collect any debts that aren't either ordered by a court, or conceeded as owing. So the debt is returned to Afterpay, who, evidently outsource their collections and as such have no in-house collections team to manage the debt. So mo more calls or emails ever again. And as the debt is likely to ge under $2k, and it costs them around $4k to sue, and obtain a court order for repayment, and those making the decision on whether the company attempts recovery via the courts or not, are also tasked with maximising profits and minimising losses, so its their job to remain impartial and to cease efforts to recover the debt... im not saying don't pay your debts, just saying to pay them as best you can, but dont permit them any opportunity to harass you and stress you further, ir to add on debt recovery charges when they aren't needed to recover the money, and have no effect on your ability to pay, except that they increase your bill substantially and therefore increase the time it takes to pay the debt, by simply adding on additional costs which exceeded the reserve bank interest rate many many many times over, and attempt to justify the cost as the reasonable costs of recovery.
