Spent 40 minutes on the phone with these scammers to get my "refund" (Don't worry, I know its a scam, and I'm set up and prepared for that.) After a lot of faked confusion by my 80+ year old alter-ego, they finally "trained" me how to set up remote access to my computer, where they "successfully" scanned and identified a number of hackers who were currently on my system. (Trust me, remote addresses shown on your computer when they do this is completely legitimate in most cases) They advised that I shouldn't cancel the account, but to agree to renew it. My machine is a virtual machine, running windows 7 over virtualbox running on a linux machine. I have a VPN to scramble my location, and all the time in the world to string these guys on. With their remote software connected to my "machine", I left them to it, whilst I exampned the traffic flowing through my network. I gathered enough information from this to identify their IP address, or at least the faked one that they use. They aren't stupid, they dtoo use a VPN to scramble their location. But when I changed my fake machine IP address to reflect their own, they got spooked, and dropped the call time after time when I called back.

I do NOT suggest anyone tries this without the proper training, knowledge and experience, but I though posting it here would give others a bit of a chuckle. Feel free to call them, but hide your number from them, and never ever let them have access to any computer or device you own.

Happy reading
