They said they were from the Australian Bureau of Statistics wanting to confirm the details of the census. They had my name and wanted to confirm my age bracket. When I said how do I know this isn’t a scam call the hung up.

Caller: Purportedly from Knox Council Heavily accented womans voice saying she was from my local Knox council and would like five minutes of my time for a survey. Told her to go away and hung up. I get a lot of spam calls and reported this one to my council as their name was being used and they affirmed that they were not doing any surveys of any kind

Caller: Supposedly Bureau of Stats In most cases the ABS makes initial household contact in writing to advise that you have been identified for survey participation. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander surveys, first contact is made through an ABS officer. For any personal visits, an ABS officer with official identification will always identify themselves and explain clearly what information is being sought and how the statistics will be used. ABS officers can provide a 1800 number for survey participants to verify legitimacy of the survey or alternatively participants are encouraged to contact the ABS office (9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday).

Caller: likely spam caller of sub continent decent claiming to be from the Aus Bureau of statistics, not a sales call, only wanting to take 5 minutes of my time. First question being if I'd travelled overseas in the last five years, when I said it was none of his business he hung up.
