My iPhone flagged this number with a “Suspicious calling pattern” warning. I didn’t answer, and no message was left. Over the past week alone, I’ve received more than 10 calls from Australian landlines with random area codes—(02), (03), (07), and so on. This has never happened before. I was one of the unlucky customers caught up in the Qantas data breach, and ever since, the spam calls and emails have been relentless.
Qantas told the media that hackers “only” accessed customer names and mobile numbers, claiming essentially that “no harm was done.” What an absolute joke. They should be fined heavily for their failure to protect customer data. Since the breach, my inbox has been flooded with spam, and the scam calls won’t stop.
This is a company that made $2.74 billion in profit last year, yet can’t secure its own IT systems? And the consequence? So far—nothing. Qantas hasn’t faced a single formal penalty. That’s a disgrace.
