Caller type: Scam call
Location: Australia
Caller: Telstra Scammers

Robo-call stated they were from Telstra and were calling about my landline connection and that if I did not press 1 it would be cut off within 24 hours.

Knowing that It was a scam I pressed 1 (I always do) .

They tried to bullsh*t me with details about errors on my NBN even though the call was suppossed to be about my landline.

They asked for my computer details so that they could “repair” the fault.

Knowing that they want either Windows, Mac or Linux I always tell them I have Amiga X1000 computer running Amiga OS 4.1.
Although this computer exists I don't actually have it.
Mentioning this model confuses the hell out of the scammers as their script does not expect this computer.

Anyway the woman was confused enough to transfer me to the "manager".
Told him the same thing when he asked if I had a Windows or Mac computer.

I said the same thing to another scammer the other day and he said he had never heard of Amigas.
I said that it was not my fault that he does not know about a computer system that has been around since the mid 1980s.

Anyway, the manager asked me to go to https://whatismyipaddress.com so that I could see my IP address.
NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR IP ADDRESS under any circumstances.
Then asked if it was public or private.
I told him that it did not say if it was public of private.

He said he would get back to me shortly then hung up.

I try to keep these bastards on the line as long as possible.
It keeps their hopes up and stoops them scamming others while they are trying to scam me.

FYI, they try to gain remote access to your computer by telling you that they can fix a fault and getting your to download Remote access software to your computer (Teamviewer, anydesk etc.). Never download anything they ask you to download.
These programs give them complete access to your computer to plant virii, spyware or just grab your files.

By saying that I use an Amiga I get to tell them that there is no Amiga version of whatever remote access program that they want me to download. This really frustrates them as they think that they have a sucker just waiting to lose his money and computer details etc. but they cannot do anything about it.

When one bloke realised he could not get access to my “Amiga” he asked me if I had a smart phone (so I could download the remote access software onto it). I said that I only had an old flip phone. This pissed him off.

Remember, keep them on the line as long as possible.
Lie to them and never download anything they want you to download and you can put them through hell.
