After a long battle I confirmed it is Telstra calling from that number (or displaying that number when calling from the Philippines!). I have made a complaint about this approach (both this number being displayed & Philippine call/live chat centre completely stuffing up my request; I'm guessing due to their limited English). Hope this helps others - this website was one of the first places I looked at when calling the number to find it disconnected.

This number was used by Telstra to inform me that contractors would contact me to arrange suitable time & date for new phone line to be installed. Legitimate as far as I can assume?

Maybe Telstra should employ AUSTRALIAN call centre people in AUSTRALIA rather than paying peanuts to Filipinos so Telstra can pay their CEO 5 MILLION dollars a year!!!

Was contacted by this number with the female voice stating they are from Telstra apologising for me not being connected to the NBN. I said what are you talking about I've been connected for over a month. The female said that I was still connected to the old copper network and that it would be a month before the work was augumented (whatever that meant). I said my NBN is running quiet fast so when I come off the old copper network will it be faster? She advoided answering this question and apologised for the delay in being on the NBN and said the modem that has been installed must be compatible with the copper network. THIS IS A SCAM!!!

This is a legitimate Telstra number (02) 9506 0700, how do I know? Because a female Telstra employee called from an outbound call centre at 7.30 last night and she said she was confirming my husbands details with him for the connection of NBN . But, my husband thought she was a scammer and he abused her after she had asked for his drivers license. We applied for NBN 3 weeks ago and I was concerned that the woman knew too many of our details so I contact my local Telstra shop and made an appoinment with a staff member to tell her my concerns about our data being compromised.

She checked to see if there was a call to our number by Telstra at that ime and date and she confirmed that the call was legitimate and handed us a transcript of the call. She explained that when it is an outbound call centre we will not be able to call the number back because it would call overseas. We questioned why Telstra would think it appropriate to ask for our drivers license over the phone. What the hell are they thinking in this day age? If you don't want to give out information over the phone or you are just not sure, then go into your Telstra shop and talk to someone. That's if you can wait that long to get served.

This is a legitimate Telstra number used by one of their outbound call centres (i.e. they call you) which is why the number shows as disconnected if you tried to return the call.

I ordered an upgrade to my Telstra service and a rep called me from that number to confirm the details, so it is definitely NOT a scam.

I was cold called by Telstra from this number to get me to change over to the NBN. Went through the usual "for verification purposes we need you to confirm ...." thing but then he offered the amount of my last bill as (some) proof that he was legit. The NBN has since been installed, so I'm pretty confident it really was Telstra. ;)

Wasn’t sure who kept calling today whilst working sounded like a telemarketer, so I kept hanging up and then blocked the number, if it is Telstra I would be surprised, the tone manorisims and introduction was different, I do consider it’s a spam number, as I only heard on 3 occasions, calling from the IT SOMETHING and then hung up, Telstra as frustrating as they can be do offer scribed introductions and given the population density spread over the continent, they actually do provide a great service for what we now pay given deregulation.
