Same deal here - heavily accented Indian caller from "Optus NBN" just before 7pm Good Friday eve. Very suss. Like the other poster here who got a call late on New Year's Eve, when everything will be closed for a few days so you can't check. They knew the time and date of my NBN technician appointment, my name and address, and said they wanted to help me get connected to the NBN. The appointment had already been confirmed earlier in the day by an SMS from the NBN and the day before by my ISP (Spintel). The big question is how did they get this information? There are 4 main probabilities for this leak:

1. NBN
2. Spintel
3. My mobile has been hacked
4. My email and calendar appointments or (scarier) my computer have been hacked

Given all calls from (02) 9368 3253 have been about the NBN, that really narrows it down to 1 or 2, and I don't know for sure, but my money on Spintel. I've called their "call centre" about NBN problems, and the operator has been drowned out by chickens in the background. When outsourced villagers paid peanuts have access to client records, it only takes one rogue for a disaster waiting to happen.

Googled and called NBN Co, this is NOT a scam, legitimate nbn service call, for connection request made by my internet provider. Internet provider arranged for connection.

Indian claiming to be from nbn. He had my
* address,
* service call time,
* service provider details.

He seemed to want to help me set up my connection but gave up when I wasn't at the premises.

He didn't know the difference between a modem and a router or what I meant by 3 blue lights. 80 % scam call. nbn should protect my privacy a bit better.

It is legit, one of NBN's numbers when calling about connections or faults.
There were problems with my connection, my ISP organised an NBN tech to come and check the cable, NBN then call me regularly (leading up to the technician appointment) to either confirm still needed, try various other options to get the connection working etc..

Sure, some of their people are unintelligible (the joy of international outsourced call centres), and they call a lot, but I balance that against other organisations that tell you they will do something and then you hear nothing for months..

Multiple phone calls and unintelligible and muffled voicemail audio with thick male accent. Can't make out what is being said in voicemail messages. Optus have confirmed my appointment for NBN connect on scheduled date. Just find it funny that what you can make out about "Connecting over the phone to Internet".. Hello first thing I made Optus put on the file was the fact had no NBN black box to go to fibre optic line phone line so that is why a technician is needed duh!

Poor connection and seems to be a distant overseas connection rather than from Sydney. Dodgy caller who had my name and address and date of (now recently passed & failed) NBN connection appointment. I asked a few questions which weren’t really answered was then referred to the NBNCo helpless line - 1800 687 626 but made no other appointment to complete work. My ISP unable to verify if legitimate or not, so enquiries continuing, but seems shonky to me at this stage.

I don’t think nbn would be calling at 8pm on New Years eave asking to set up nbn
When I have already got a technician booked in from Optus to set up

She could not speak a straight sentence and sounded very much scripted as I assume she was relaying from notes

100% scam wouldn’t trust it especially calling at 8pm on New Year’s Eve big give away idiots

Received 15 calls from this number over a 6 day period including on Saturday and Sunday. Knew my name and location of NBN installation but had no other details. Every call had patchy audio and all were based in India. Optus confirmed this isn’t on behalf of them. Scammers and nuisance callers. Blocked and reported.

Complete scam. Ignore and block. Terrible connection. Wanted remote access to "help" set up the box.

I was SO worried because of negative reviews, but it is genuine. Someone from the NBN (yes, he had a thick Indian accent, what does that really mean?) who knew I had a technician appointment booked, and asked if I required a new NBN box, which I did, and so he sent the box to me, which has allowed us to set ourselves us, much quicker than waiting for a technician. I did ask NBN for their feedback on this, and they were very unhelpful and just said that yes, I may receive a call from someone to assist in install.

Got my NBN set up 2 weeks ago, all good ,no probs..from the 2nd day of installation I started receiving calls from this number , leaving voice and txt messages saying they are from my nbn provider and it is important for me to answer so they can check my nbn is working...I didnt answer them but I DID contact my nbn provider on their number and they knew nothing about it , said they dont call to check your nbn is working..they advised not to engage with them
Or provide any personal info...Still EVERY DAY they are calling, had to block them.. pain in the arse these crooks.

Caller: Claimed to be NBN

Claimed to be NBN, I had an appointment booked for today, Indian accent, she knew my first name - asked for last name and I declined, _I asked why she was calling, she said to confirm what equipment I have for the appointment. I said I needed the NBN Box but I have a modem. I suspected it was a scam and didn't give anymore information but she knew my address. I believe that if I had a NBN box that they would have tried to 'set it up ' over the phone like they have tried with others in this feed and remotely access my computer or something like that. As I didn't have a connected line, they let the call go.

Called and text many times claiming to be NBN and asking for details. Also knew of appointment to connect, but would not tell me what they wanted and wanted to go through long set of questions.
Sounded like calling from Asia with time delay and echo.
Nuisance calls.

Got two calls from a male with strong Indian accent, kept telling me he was my connection manager and wanted to know if we had a 'white' modem. I told him this number is all over the internet as being a scam all he could say was that I could call them back and ask for him by name. Trouble is I am so used to such poor customer service in Aust with regards to dealing with telco companies/call centres that made me more suspicious....

Had my NBN connection set up for the coming week. I already confirmed my details with my provider, no reason why some third party should be asking for your details.
A text was also left shortly after the call (when i didn't pick up). Text in itself seemed dodgy!
I would recommend contacting your provider and no other third party to confirm any details!

Caller: NBN on behalf of Optus (apparently)

This was one of two phone numbers which I believed to be a scam, however at the moment I'm thinking legit. (The other was a text from 0429 709 861 with the address details and asking for a text reply to indicate readiness for technician visit). They were calling from NBN on behalf of Optus to see if I had the NBN black box on the premises. They had the property address (not the suburb) and didn't ask me for any more details. I confirmed the situation with the black box. I mentioned TIO, how totally disorganised it all seemed, given there should be one contact point (eg the ISP), not three. Was given NBN contact number 1300 626 873, which comes up in first page of search results for nbnco, but of course they would rather you contact them through their online form and the phone number is nowhere to be seen on the contact us page. Hopeless NBN communications fiasco, thanks Malcolm, and your dud woftam successors.

Caller: The Indians purporting to be from NBN Co

The following was posted on NBN Co’s website in March 2019. I found it after receiving a call from an Indian man with a very muffled voice about my nbn connection. I contacted my provider, who said the call had nothing to do with them or my nbn connection.
Hope it helps.

The key point of contact for Australians connecting to the nbn access network will always be their preferred phone and internet service provider. NBN Co is a wholesale-only company, which means we do not sell phone or internet services directly to the public.

Do not share your financial information ((i.e. bank, credit card or gift card details) or personal details with an unsolicited caller or door knockers trying to seek payment for an nbn™ service.

Connecting to the nbn access network is not automatic and people need to contact their preferred phone or internet provider. Never give an unsolicited caller remote access to your computer or devices via the installation of programs.

NBN Co does not make automated calls (i.e. robocalls) to advise of disconnections to a service. Please do not engage with these calls.

If in doubt, hang up and call your retail service provider on their official customer service centre number to check if the call is legitimate. Do not use contact details supplied by the caller.
