Caller: Aussie Savings

Number (02) 9337 1548 appears on screen - It involved a lengthy conversation with an Indian-voiced woman who claimed to be from a Melbourne company called “Aussie Savings”, an energy price comparison service. The address they had was not mine, so I conducted an ABN Check, no such business name. I asked for the website to verify their authenticity, was provided www.aussiesavings.com.au and it does not exist.

The woman was at pains to argue with me that they were not a scammer. When I feigned interest in the ‘offer’ the first question was my name and address. I explained to the woman that this phishing is generally how scammers operate, to which led to another round of painful attempts by her to convince me they were not scammers – I couldn’t believe she stayed on for 20 minutes, but eventually hung up and said a supervisor will call me later with their ABN and correct website address.
