Caller: Claimed to be NBN “Your IP has changed from Private to Public” scam. Was apparently an NBN call centre with female Indian operators.
In this telephone scam, the caller tries to convince you that your home network, and your IP address, has switched from a “private” to “public” mode, and that you are at risk. This is a trick to try to convince you to let the caller have remote access to your computer and home network.
They had me check my IP addresses but didn't ask details. Then asked to check the Events log on my computer, I did this but saw that some of the urgent events went back 6 yrs ago, then I became suspicious if there was an issue.
Then they wanted me to go to the Windows start button and selected Run - it this stage I stopped and cancelled the call, as I assume they would want to access programs or make selections to my computer. They tried to refer me to another person but I said I was cancelling the call and do my own research and phone the NBN or Telstra back.
