hi
i had a phone call telling me it was Virgin Media phoning as they had noticed there was a problem with my internet speed - which is true. The man told me he was going to install a programme that would help fix the problem which had been caused by viruses on my computer- which i was not aware that i had!
he asked me to go to a website called www.teamviewer.com which i a genuine site and told me to "join a session" which i did. it asked me to run the programme which i did and then brought up an ID number and 4 digit password which he asked me to give him as it would allow them to fix the problem. after i had given him the ID and passoword my computer froze, meaning i could not use my mouse or any functions - however my mouse cursor started moving and opening and closing programmes on my computer which i found very strange. the man on the phone told me that he was goin to change settings to allow him to install the programme required to fix the problem. at this point i asked what he was doing and how long he would take, he told me it would take 40-45mins and i told him no i did not have time and he did something and allowed me to use my computer again and then the phone line went dead.

this only happened about 1hour ago and i dont see anything strange on my comouter except that my MacAfee settings seem to have changed.

i phoned up the TeamViewer company on their contact line and spoke to a member of their team. i told them what had happened and they told me that the software is legitimate but people are using it to scam people. they told me that it would ask for a different password each time they try to use it on my computer and that if it asks me to do anything i have to just ignore it!

i just wanted to let people know that it is a scam so if someone phones telling you to use a website called TeamViewer.com DO NOT USE IT OR GIVE THEM ANY DETAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was silly to believe them but please dont let them do it to you!!!!

This company was pestering my wife so when I finally answered.....

I knew of these scams, so I played along with them.
I was on the phone for ages telling them I had 3 Laptops & 2 Desktops.
They told me that they charge £185 per machine to repair.
I asked if they would do a special deal for my 5 machines for £500

I think the guy must have thought it was his birthday...lol

I gave him bogus details.

They haven't called back since.

This person called my mother claiming to be from Virgin media, saying she had slow internet becuase of some junk file and he wanted to move her on to another server so they call deal with it. She was suspiscious and asked for his number, which he gave and she said she was going to get me to call him back. I didn't believe it, so checked here and find other worrying reports.

I work for an ISP and have had a call from a customer telling me he received a call from someone claiming to be from our company.  This person tried to sell him 9 years of Internet Security for £96.  The customer then allowed the person to remotely access his PC and I suspect the person planted some kind of data storing file at this point.  The scammer then gave the person this phone number and said it was our technical support department.
