Had a missed call, they didn't leave a message. Assume it's a scam.

Caller: Scammers

Called back missed call, got no ring, just silence then call failed. Fake number generated by scammers

No message left and we don’t know anybody in Sydney. Presume it’s a scam.

Caller: TV survey spam

Yep. They spam call random numbers to try and complete some TV survey.
Anyone opening with “I’m not trying to sell you anything “ gets hung up on. In these days of scams and identity theft, being sold stuff is not what people are concerned about when some random spam calls them!
