called back number, got automated message saying "number not in service." time-wasters

I called back number (02) 9053 9616 reached voice mail but did not say for what company.

Caller: Market researcher

Said they randomly generated my number and cross-checked it...whatever that means? Hung up from there

Don’t Answer & Don’t Call It Back. Missed a call from it and when I called it back got a recording of a female voice with an American accent saying the number you have called is not in service. Marketing, Spam or Scam Take Your Pick.
