I logged a callback for Apple Support and this is the number they call back on.

Called me twice today with an recorded voice saying this is an automated return call that I asked for from Apple Support. I have not called or emailed Apple for any support.

It is a genuine number for apple tech support. I used it yesterday and received very efficient and helpful response.

Placed a Request to Apple for a Phone support relating Apple product. Tech returned call promptly and it was a good experience.

It’s a scam the way they go about things is not professional enough to be apple and some questions I asked of them would have been answered if it was legitimate

They raise a real case with Apple on your behalf, and then the scammers quote this real case number pretending it's apple on the phone. Then they direct you to a dodge website asking you to enter details. It is a scam guys.
The positive responses here are either victims or the scammers themselves.

CONFIRMED SCAM. Do not be tricked.
This is a phishing scam! Caller pretended to be apple, sent me a SMS requesting I go to a fake (non apple) website/domain that was registered 5 days ago. Caller hung up when I wouldn't do it.

Came up on the phone as "Suspected Spam"
This was a legitimate call from Apple Support. I was given a case #. I ended up calling the 1300 Apple support number as they were unable to help.
The case # was confirmed when I rang. So Yes this is a legitimate number
