Caller: A scammer I received a WhatsApp message purportedly from my son. He was asking me to assist him in paying for something but his iPhone was down which is why he was using a WhatsApp number. I do not know how the scammer knew certain things but it was initially very convincing. So much so that I sent ‘my son’ a photo of my credit card (since cancelled). I even sent the OTP. How lucky am I that it did not work!! So the scammer sent me a link to easycrypto.com website to set up an account, which I did. Luckily I signed in thru FB and didn’t need a password. The scammer said (very much like my son might have) for me to send him my username and password for my new easycrypto.com account and he would take it from there. He said it was a site for purchasing things other than crypto. Now looking back I can’t believe I was so stupid but I couldn’t contact my son bc his phone was actually not working!! I did send the scammer my email address but have now changed its password too. I got suspicious and asked ‘my son’ to verify it was actually him and then it all became evident.
