Phoned by an Indian guy who claimed I'd been overcharged by my bank with fees and a cheque for $7000 would be sent to me. Given a phone nmber (the one above) to ring and speak to a Maria Edwards or Henry Williams and give the reference number to validate my identity.

Had the same experience about the claims department I should receive $7218.00 after paying 199 in sollicitor fees and someone would come to my home went straight to the Police and reported the Scam

Thursday 29/05/2014 approx. 11.15 am Just received call from Indian fellow who claimed he was from Claim Dept of the Australian Federal Government and they were refunding $7218 in over charged bank fees. Asked me to call manager Gay (Gary) Smith on 02 80075
383 ( also named 2 others one being Edward). Asked for DOB. Asked if I wanted money deposited into Bank ac... no details given. Offered cheque. They had my address. I send sent it to me. Asked why they had not written to me.NO reply. Tried to call back. Much back ground noise but no one talking. They called me back. Spoke to Rose Brown wanting me to confirm myself. I said you already must have that as you have collated lot of information already. She went over spiel then advised that someone would come to the house to confirm ID and then hand deliver a cheque. I asked why they could not send it certified mail. She advised for a such a big amount they need to confirm identity. I tried to verify Department of the Federal Government. She kept saying Reclaim Dept. I said I have never heard of it as I too work for the Federal Government. She hung up. Will report to ACCC...there is a site to report scams.

Ditto to above and most obviously a scam. Caller akin to an overseas call centre accent, rang on my land line, saying I'd been overcharged on utilities and shopping bills and the the Australian Government owed me $7,000 plus. I was given a reference number and asked to ring the (02) 8007 5383 number and ask for Julia Joseph. Once I had spoken to her and given her the reference number, my cheque would be in the mail. $7000 would be nice of course, but I have a funny feeling it wouldn't be forthcoming even if I did follow the instructions!!!

Rang saying that they had done a survey and we had been overcharged on rates and utilities over the last couple of years. Gave us this number and said to call back after 11am on Monday and speak to a manager called either Steven Richards or Alan Jackson.

Non Australian female claimed to be working for Aust Govt saying I am owed $7000+ for fees I've been charged. When asked she said she was calling from Sydney. Gave me a ref. number and asked me to ring Gary on this number

Call from overseas telling me Fed.Gov was giving me $7000 refund, asked to verify DOB, when I asked for ID caller said his name was Nick and to call back on (02) 8007 5383 15.03.2014

Claim to be from Aust Govt. ask for date of birth.

Australian fed police say this number is a scam number and they are moving in on them.

Caller from Gov Dept saying I have been over charged. And to ring back on this number.

Caller claimed to be from Aust. Govt. asked me to ring this no. to claim refund of money owed.

Claim to be arranging govt. refund and ask for date of birth and bank. Very unconvincing scam.

Another who copped a call, got given a ref. number AA7. googled the number and taadaa...bunch of pricks.

Just got the same call for a refund of over$7000 same reference code as mentioned above and Indian accent!

Best date of birth to give is yesterday's date. Then after you give it you say "oh wait, hang on, I wasn't born yesterday!" then hang up.

Just ad a wonderful pre Christmas call from (02) 8007 5383 You know the drill. When I said just send the cheque the call ended abruptly.This is a new one promising to send a cheque and not asking for a bank account.My caller was Steven and his first manager was Angelina Cooper and the second manager was ... Smith.

Just got the same call.  Person with strong Indian accent claiming that the government owed me $5248 for amounts that I had been overcharged over the last year.  Knew it was a scam right away.  In fact I could hear other call centre staff giving the same drill with exactly the same amount of refund ($5248).Was asked for my date of birth (gave them a false DOB) and asked which bank I would prefer the cheque to come from.  When I questioned this, they said it will clear quicker if I give them my bank.  So I told them I wanted the cheque to come from the Reserve Bank of Australia!!!  Was then told to call (02) 8007 5383 and ask for either James Smith or Angelina Cooper and quote a reference number.  I also got a follow up phone call 15 minutes later asking why I hadn't called the number yet.Like others, the person knew my full name and address.  I'm on the do not call register but I guess scammers don't care about that do they!!!  Might be time to get a silent number.

received call from indian man claiming i would receive government rebate of $5000.00 plus for overpaid utility bills. I could have either cheque or a direct payment to my bank. Would not give him details, he said that cheque would be delivered to my door and asked for a once only fee for lawyers fees when I said that the government did not ask for fees he said they could not help and hung up.
