I received a phone call from some one that claimed to be from the federal government ,and claimed they had a cheque for me for the amount of nearly $8000
They had my name and address and told me they would send me a Commonwealth bank cheque for that amount .But all I had to do was ring them on (02) 8006 8235 and ask for a Angelina Copper or Paul Edwards and give them my application number being SJ283.When I questioned this saying that they had my address so they could send me the bank cheque ,he went on to say they had to verify my voice .What a lot of crap so anybody who reads this do not trust any body as their are lots of low scum out their ,

Didn't answer the call as I didn't know the number, Got a voicemail, stating that my TFN was invalid and that a warrant for my arrest would be issued and I was going to go to prison if I did not contact them back. It was an automated call.

As the last person said, it was a scammer ringing from Commonwealth to tell me that I had a cheque waiting for me for $7,000. They told me they just needed to confirm some of my bank details - as they already had some but not the rest, they repeated my address and P.O. Box to me and I told them I wanted to speak to the manager, they said that they weren't available but I could call back and quote that I wanted to speak to "K26" to whoever answered as this was the manager's code.

I hung up and rang my bank immediately - Not Commonwealth, and was advised that it was infact a scammer, and that I had done the right thing by ringing them. Not a minute after I had hung up from my bank, I had another call from the (02) 8006 8235 scammers asking why my last call wasn't to their number asking for the "K26" figure, I told them I had just gotten off of the phone to the Fedral Police - a lie, however as soon as I said that their line went dead.

Please nobody send money out to anyone. Your bank has your details, if you're not sure of legitimacy, ring your bank to confirm.

Was given this number in response to me insisting on a number to call back on when the caller, pretending to be from Optus, tried to get me to verify my personal details.

Caller ID comes up as private. He was apparently from Telstra advising me someone else is using my internet connection. Asked for a number so I could call them back and when I called it was not recognised. Just another scam

The latest from this number is the offer of free books regarding investing income tax. The person who rang said they had been on teevee. I then questioned why I had been rung at all - did they not understand the Do Not Call register?

As other messages, this seems spam or fraudulent. Rang number back from office phone only to say it was disconnected.

SCAM - pretended to be from Australian government reclaim department. Said $5348 for incorrect charges from bank. When I asked which bank they said Commonwealth (no joke intended!), but we're not with the Commonwealth! Refused to say where they were based. When I insisted, they actually gave our address (must have appeared on their screen). I asked to speak to the supervisor, who had an almost identical (Asian) accent. I think it was the same person, just putting on a fake voice! Ahhh, several minutes of fun just stringing him along until he finally hung up!!!!

Same as others, ie Fed Government were going to pay me over $7000 in overcharged bank fees. Confirmed address and d.o.b and asked how I wanted to be paid. I opted for cheque! Was given a ref number and told to call (02) 8006 8235. Was surprised not to be asked for bank details. Instead of calling back, jumped online and quickly found this!!

This scam seems to have been recently re-activated, as I too have just had the call from the "Reclaim Department of the Australian Government" in a very heavy Indian accent.  Same initial story, same manager on same call-back number as all of the above. The call-back number is probably a VOIP connection to an overseas scammer.  When pressed for the name of the actual Federal Government Department authorising these "refunds", the "Reclaim Department" was all that I could get.I did not follow up with the "Manager, Paul Edwards" or "Assistant Manage, Angelina Cooper", but unfortunately did slip up in giving a d.o.b. in response to an initial question, so I don't know whether there's an identity theft component to this scam.

I receive a call twice that I credit of $7662 in overcharged bank fees.confirmed add and dob and asked I want to receive money.

BOB

call from federal government reclaim department ref. overcharging of bank fees and also by utility departments given reference code and told to ring his manager on this number to find out how to receive my $7300.

Similiar to above messages. I received a phone call saying I had to be credited $7268 for overpayment of bank charges, and to ring (02) 8006 8235 .. Finance Dept. of the Federal Govt., Reclaim Dept.   I decided to go along with this scam to get more info and after back-tracking the so called Manager [Mr Paul Edwards] advised I should go to the nearest Post Office and get a Western Union Money Transfer Form to pay the Lawyers fee of $199.  When I had the form I was advised to ring Paul Edwards and he would advise how to fill out the form and who to pay the money to.    When questioned about Western Union Money Order / why no details up front / and if it was the Govt. then they should be able to quote my Tax file number back to me .  All of a sudden there was stuttering and stammering and the line went dead.WHY DOESN'T THE GOVERNMENT STOP THESE CON ARTISTS who have indian [or similiar] accents.
