I had a call to our law firm from the Australian Council of Bank Reclaims Department stating I have been overcharged interest on my bank account.  Leading the caller on I  showed interest and  I was asked to go to the post office where the caller would contact me on my mobile to 'help me fill out the form' to transfer funds.  I insisted on calling back to verify his organisations credentials and was given this phone number - (02) 8014 7205.   When I called back I advised that I would be reporting them to the appropriate authorities.

I had a phone call from a John Darby, he gave me his phone number as being (02) 6100 3698, he told me he was from the council of banking reclaims, and that i had $4511 owing to me in bank charges from the last ten years, he told me to collect a yellow and a green western union forms, he then said to come back home, ring him up, he would tell me how to fill it in, then i would go back to the post office and pay $383, then my money would be given to me then and there, plus the $383! I rang the bank, they said it was a scam, because if i had any money owing to me, they would have notified me! I also rang a government department,( as he claimed it was a government department he was working for) they said they didn't have such a department, and gave me a number to ring to report it, that number is 1300 795 995.I just hope that no one gets caught by this scam!

i just got a call from Indian person claiming she was from the australian council re-claim dept.  She said i had $3160.00 in bank charges owing to me.  All i had to do was to pay via western union $180.00 which was refundable to get my $3160.00.  She wanted to know hwo far the post office was and when exactly i would be going.  She got quite short with me when I got suspcious and started asking questions about how they got my information / address / phone number etc.  Sounds very dodgy.

She's active again! Calling herself Michelle with strong Indian accent. Same story using same ref  to Aust council Bank Reclaim Dept.(which  is she says a Govt Dept). I needed photo ID, my mobile , and $150 dollars to collect my " $3,400 owing." She wanted to  know what time I  would go to the  PO.Reluctant to give me her details but finally gave me (08) 6102 5252.I have reported the call to Scam Watch

Yes i also got a call that i had $3160 in overcharged fees and to go to the post office and pay $180 fill out forms to claim the phone number given to me (02) 8014 4829  addess  372 elizabeth st surry hills ,,,we have rung our bank with the details ...they were also from the bank reclaim dept...

Yes I also got a phone call just 30 minutes ago (Tuesday 31 Aug 10.25 am) John Darby was his name, but his return call number is (08) 7200 1167 claiming he was from Australian Council of Bank Recliams indicating I had $7531.00  REIMBURSEMENT FOR  OVERPAID BANK FEES. I ASKED HIM HOW HE GOT MY DETAILS,he said, he worked for the Australian Gov. His supervisor could tell him 'which banks these fees were being paid back from. Same as above about goining to post office, deposite $450:00 inWestern Union, and I would get this and the $7531 back. within 10 minutes of depositing the money????????????Challenged him again about validity of this money he siad ring this number back and it will be verified.????Will ring back -- to check what happens next, but have not gone to post office.I will be reporting this number and name to consumer affairs.Donot hold your breath about it being stopped though.
