This number tried calling me at 9:45pm on a week night. No voice message. Did not answer as obviously some sort of scam call.

I had a call today too.  However I am a bit disappointed that I was only going to get $500 not $5000!!  I am a bit offended now after reading everyone elses posts.  Why dont I deserve $5000??  Surely my impressive record of 'Never declaring myself bankrupt, and always paying my utilities bills on time' should qualify me for $5000 not just a measly $500!! HeheMy reference number I had to quote was A726.  She said her name was Christina Hyland (an unusual name for someone for calling from an Indian call centre I thought!!) & she said she was calling from the Confirmation Department on behalf of the ATO.  She also said that the 02 800 34 797 number I had to call back was the Accounts/Service Department.  She said that when I called the 02 number, they would give me a 6 digit number, which I then had to take to my bank and theyd then be able to directly deposit the $500 directly into my account!!! I too called the ATO and the lady took all of the details, but she had never heard of this scam before. She said there is no confirmation department, and that she didnt know of any 02 numbers that would be used by any section of the ATO...I have not and will not be calling the number, but I am very curious as to who would answer it, or how much youd be charged for calling it!!

Hey I'm from Karratha too but I got an Indian bloke not a female who assured me my number had been chosen by the ATO (go figure) and they would give me five grand just because I was lucky. I said B***s*** you d***head clearly you're a scammer and he hung up. Funny thing is he's called twice now and I hope he calls again so i can call him a d***head again. I don't get to do that very often.

Yeah I got a call today at 1.20, also from Ryan an Indian man supposedly from the non existent confirmation department of the ATO in Melbourne. I have been chosen to be granted $7000!!! in my nearest bank?!?! because I have paid my taxes, not claimed bankrupcy and have no criminal record ( for the last six months). All I needed to do was call (03) 9016 9859 qoute my reference number to the supervisor!!! I was extremely sus and maybe stupid but I thought that a phone call can do no harm so I did call the number. An indian man answers ( no switchboard ) ( and its a Saturday ) after I questioned him some, he said he was very busy with too many calls and Im to call back in ten minutes. I quoted my reference number to him...??!! Do you think there could be any harm in doing this??

I also received a phone call from an Indian lady instructing to ring (02) 6100 3286. She said she's calling on behalf of the the Australian government tax office and advised to ring the 02 number to speak to the senior supervisor in regards to obtaining a $7000 bonus money granted by the government to only a selection of people.I have never believed in any of these stuff but I am pretty sure that there are people who will innocently think that they are really getting the money. Really annoying and I am too listed on the do not call register. So why are they still ringing???

I just got the same call saying because i had no criminal record and I paid my taxes on time that the taxation department was giving me $5000.....I just laughed at the hard to understand Indian accent and said I want to speak to your supervisor, and if you want to give me $5000 why don't you just give it to me now, why should I call back!!!!
I ended up giving them a mouthful!
Obviously you call back and get charged at a high call rate.
We are on the do not call register and we get anoying calls like this nearly everyday because it is just for within Australia only.

I feel sorry for poor people trying to make a dollar in India, but COME ON! that scam is ridiculas!
