This number tried calling me at 9:45pm on a week night. No voice message. Did not answer as obviously some sort of scam call.

i got phone call from this number lady said she is from taxation office ofering $5000 if i call this number 02 800 343 797

Hey I'm from Karratha too but I got an Indian bloke not a female who assured me my number had been chosen by the ATO (go figure) and they would give me five grand just because I was lucky. I said Bu***hit you d***head clearly you're a scammer and he hung up. Funny thing is he's called twice now and I hope he calls again so i can call him a d***head again. I don't get to do that very often.

I just received a call from an Indian accent guy and told me his name is Austin Jordan from taxation office. Amasing how people go to all sorts of means to scam people. The guy gave me this number to ring. (02) 6100 3286 to claim over 7000 dollars. Beware people.

seriously my wife did get a call aswell, just then, fir 18/02/11 at 1:40 pm. i did a google search of the number and this came up. sounds very suss. but gonna ring the tax office FIRST and check it out with the aplication they gave her.

Called ATO- they've taken ALL details, and are now  getting their fraud dep to look into them. WHAT THEY DEF COULD TELL ME IS- Noone from ATO has looked in my account since OCTOBER of last year(staff @ ATO MUST log in to view ANYONES' details ) , there is NADA on my account saying a thing about $5000, and they (the customer service operator ) knew nothing of any such scheme.I WONDER WHY THESE PPL ARE DOING THIS???They say they are from the ATO /government, & that individual( in this case, moi, haha )  has been chosen because they have 1. no disputes with govern. 2. no outstanding monies to ATO , 3. not claimed bankrupcy in past 3 years.(not in that order ) . TO proceed with getting funds , all I 'had' to do was ring his senior officer on the 02  ph. no listed, with a application no. he himself gave me.WHAT DO YOU THINK THE SCAM IS ? I even said I would check with ATO- they said that was OK, and said their 'scheme' (not HIS words, lol) had been going 7 years. Hmmmmmmnnnnnnnn.Ideas anyone?Also- glad to dob in a scammer anyway- but any chance I will get a reward from ATO for this?(I know , but worth at least a try  :P )

I had a call today too.  However I am a bit disappointed that I was only going to get $500 not $5000!!  I am a bit offended now after reading everyone elses posts.  Why dont I deserve $5000??  Surely my impressive record of 'Never declaring myself bankrupt, and always paying my utilities bills on time' should qualify me for $5000 not just a measly $500!! HeheMy reference number I had to quote was A726.  She said her name was Christina Hyland (an unusual name for someone for calling from an Indian call centre I thought!!) & she said she was calling from the Confirmation Department on behalf of the ATO.  She also said that the 02 800 34 797 number I had to call back was the Accounts/Service Department.  She said that when I called the 02 number, they would give me a 6 digit number, which I then had to take to my bank and theyd then be able to directly deposit the $500 directly into my account!!! I too called the ATO and the lady took all of the details, but she had never heard of this scam before. She said there is no confirmation department, and that she didnt know of any 02 numbers that would be used by any section of the ATO...I have not and will not be calling the number, but I am very curious as to who would answer it, or how much youd be charged for calling it!!
