Hello Friends
Thank you for this blog I had a call 5 minutes back and asked the call centre lady for the number to authenticate and I found your site and it warned me of the scam.
Let me tell you what happend a lady phoned (Tracey) she told me that my windows computer was corrupted;I asked her what a computer was she told me it was a PC; I asked for her where she was calling she told me that she was calling from the Canberra office I asked for the number which she gave me. when I told her that I didn't understand what she was talking about she passed the phone to an Indian guy he introduced himself as Ryan and told me that I was refered by Christy when I corrected him. He said that the calls got mixed. This guy insisted that I have a pc and they were getting information that my "Windows PC" was having some problem they wanted to get access to it. I told him that I don't have a PC he immediately changed his tone & told me that I was living in some backword country. I disconneceted the phone but now have concerns for the retirees who may be vunerable to such scams. I called the number which was given to me by the first scammer it rang and was ans wered by an Indian named Peter.

I received a call this afternoon from a lady telling me she was from Windows & they were getting emails from me at odd times of the day. I didnt believe her, although am having pc probs at the moment. I asked her how she got my details? She said she called the shop where i bought the computer & got my details from them, although couldnt tell me where. She could tell me my name, my address & phone number. She asked me to turn on my computer, it was already on but i didnt tell her that. She even said she knew my IP address & quoted it to me. I should have written it down & checked it. I asked for her phone number & said i would call her back but have no intentions. I am concerned that she knew so much. I will be getting a computer technician to check out my settings as soon as possible.

This is an old scam using yet another new "fake" number. These people try to get remote access to your computer to "repair" errors which aren't even there in the first place. They show you things which are quite normal on your machine and try to convince you that they are viruses or errors. If you give them remote access they can install spyware and malware which can steal your passwords and any other info you have on there. BBC1 programme "You've been scammed" shown on Monday highlighted the scam. The Director of Security for Microsoft stated on the programme that neither Microsoft nor its partners would ever 'phone you as it would be a breach of their privacy rules. If they ring again tell them you know it is a scam and hang up.
