This is a tax scam. Pretending to be ATO offering a deal to reduce your tax debt. I just save their number and whenever I feel like venting I give them a ring. Annoy them with a bit of their own medicine. ATO official told me one such scammer admitted to scamming $80,000 a day. Not a bad earn for the sake of some phone calls.

They aren't "allowing" this, these scammers are overseas and hard to track down. Even if complaints to Skype manages to close their account, then they just open another.

Wenton Matthews and Frank Anderson taxation officers (apparently) rang from this number and threatened me with an arrest warrant in half an hour if I couldn't manage to pay my $7000 debt (in cash) for tax fraud during 2009 - 2014. Disgusting people who would be millionaires if they put as much effort into getting an honest job as they do to ripping people off ..

Just received a message from this number, Claiming to be the ATO. apparently wanting to discuss the receipt of a note filed against my name along with an arrest warrant issued in my name. Number doesn't exist when I call it back .... on checking the ATO website, there is nothing like this number listed anywhere. Obviously some kind of scam.

Scammer pretending to be from the ATO in Canberra. This scam is aimed at those that have an ATO debt. Essentially, pay us some money and we will write off the balance of the debt. Checked with the ATO. They advised that scammers using VOIP technology have numbers usually commencing with 61. Apparently there are no legitimate numbers that commence with 61 in Canberra.

I notice all the comments left are old, but I get called from this number quite a bit - comes up as from Canberra. I don't answer but when try to call back it connects and them disconnects immediately. Just FYI government departments - legit ones - will be listed as a private number if they call you.

They called but I didn’t answer due to being at work. Though they left me a 1.34sec voicemail, I don’t think they hung up their phone properly cause all I heard was people talking in the background. It’s had English and a different language so it’s hard to hear.

Just received two calls from this number

They are still at it, got two messages on my machine in two hours today, saying it is time sensitive and we must call back asap. Like one of the other posts said "what a crock of s..t" I am going to tell as many people as I can not to get caught. Might even put it on my facebook page to warn people.

My partner has had the same message today demanding that she has to pay $7000, I am now having fun by annoying the hell out of him. We have reported it to the police but they don't seem to care. Will try the real ATO and see what they have to say.

This scam is still going, exactly the same message left on the answering machine as people have previously advised

Second time this scum has called. I've managed to delete it before my old Mum gets it - she would think it real. Why can the ATO or Govt do some think about these scum.

same scam - ATO has an arrest warrant - 'please call and we will be glad to help you'(!). Luckily this was on the answering machine, as my partner was not sure if it was genuine. Someone in another forum said the number is actually from o'seas.

Interestingly ...they said ATO and then said Australian Translation of Authors. A load of crock

I received a similar call from 'Wenton Matthews', threatening arrest and advising me to call the hot line on this number. There is no reply on the number. Checked the number online and there are many complaints about a scam.

My father received the same message on his answering service by this Winston Mathews referring to a receipt petition note filled against his name from the ATO threatening legal action and a potential warrant for his arrest. All the above statements spot on describe the same message my father got. Thank goodness for this website because otherwise we wouldn't know it's a scam, I hope these low life bastards get caught soon so more people don't get caught victim to their trap.
