I also got the same call from a john smith who left a message saying he was from the ato and if I didnt call then it'd be bad for me as the "situation unfolded" , hilarious.. I called back and got a guy with a strong indian accent who when I said he wasnt the ato proceeded to tell me I wasnt a real man and hung up ! Going to keep this number for occasional comedy purposes..

Clearly a scam.

Mine was from Agent John Smith but it was a machine voice and used Americanisms like "Your attorney". We refer to legal practitioners as Solicitors and Barristers. Sounded like a scam to me.

ATO scammer claiming to be Jim Black. Heavy Indian accent. Clearly reading from a bad script. Hilarious. Kept him on the phone as long as possible with stupid questions but I think he was eventually onto me and hung up.

Yep it's another fake tax IRS agent. He had middle eastern accent.

Tax scam

I had a call from an Indian guy stating he was from ATO and he had received a complaint about me. He tried confirming address (a 7 year old address btw) and I asked if I could return his call. He says yes. I had a look at scamwatch and it looks like it is probably one of this particular scam's numbers they call you and say there is a warrant or whatever. block it!

Got a call from this number today. They use auto diallers so it takes a while before they actually start talking. He asked for me by name, which is why I gave him the benefit of the doubt. With a thick Indian accent the guys says he's calling from the ATO and that they've issued a warrant for my arrest because of unpaid taxes. I stopped him there, told him that we both know that this is a scam and to get a real job instead of harassing people. Was at work so didn't want to spend more time on him than that. If you have the time to spare I guess you could always stay on the line and waste their time by pretending to buy into it. In short, ATO scam.

The ATO scammers are back again this year. Was just called by "Agent Watson Brown" who had a "complaint against my name".
