Caller: Scammer Call Centre baised in India They called up claiming to be a the "VISA and MASTER card fraud center" and they claimed a person called John Smith had made a purchase at 5 am via my "Credit" card for an amount of $199.00.
I hung up at that point as there where multiple problems with their claim. One the obvious long sound delay over the call was a good indicator that the call was being sent over seas via VOIP and the number was not in Australia. Second I have no credit card as they claimed, I do have a debit card but that leads into my 3rd problem with their claim. If randomly named person tried to make a purchase that was outside of my normally expected purchases the payment would be denied and a call from my bank would be immediately incoming from my bank and not 13 hours later.
My advise, do not trust people claiming to be legitimate organizations like this strait away. Learn the tells that a call might be sus and if you are unsure get a reference number and call the official number readily available on that organization's site and not any number they give you. If they are who they say they are they will have what they called about on file and they will carry on where they left off before you hung up on them and if not the legit organization will advise you from there.
