Why can’t the telcos divert these nonsense scam calls back to them selves

Had the same ring twice at 12:30 am and the at 1’10 00117327340146 This number.

Rang twice yesterday at 11.30pm and 11.45pm. I let it go to voicemail and no message was left, only intermittent beeps. I have now blocked the number

Same happened to me last night at 9:19pm but no voice, just the sound of a fax machine. Rang twice within a few minutes

phone call from this number arrived at 9.25pm tonight, the person on the other end spoke so quickly that I didn't understand what she was talking about, did hear press something and I would get a fax I think she said which would be hard as don't have a fax. Was an automated call. Just wish these scammers would find something else to pass their time!!
