Asked for a telstra incident reference numer and he hung up how sad My mother in law cas constantly receiving this phone call until I took the call. Was given a number and so called ID when I requested it all. Once given the female hung up on me. I can see from the messages above this is a definite scam call, this call has just happened on our family home line. A male of indian decent has called claiming our internet service is due to be cut by tomorrow morning. Advised the gateways were down and under attack from overseas viruses. Then told me to log online follow his instructions as they have a back up service we can use while apparently these gateways were being fixed. Firstly he did not ask to speak to the person who pays for our service provider, did not ask to confirm any id details, secondly no privacy statement was read. He advised his name was Ethan Dawson from Telstra NSW head office (was unable to confirm a suburb), he then provided me a number to call which was the Telstra number and gave a fake reference number TAU86822. THIS IS A SCAM CALL THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY TELSTRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes. just received a call, claiming that our internet is being hacked, i asked what Telstra department they are calling from, they paused then said 'technical support:)) I asked for a name and contact number, he gave 1800 687 829 and said his name was Alan Smith.:) Definitely a scam (verified by Telstra) - called by hard to understand Indian call centre claiming they would turn our internet off in 5 minutes as it's being hacked right now. They wanted our CLIS register number which obviously would give them full access to our system. I spoke to 4 different people, asked for a telephone number, the last person was the Lead Support guy who was very aggressive, rude and insistent I follow his instructions. BEWARE!!! Possibly a scam - claimed to be Telstra staff ID: D199023 calling in regards to internet and telephone being closed down within 5 minutes if instructions were not followed. Was asked to turn on the computer and follow caller's instructions. Caller was very aggressive and rang back three times.
