I made an earlier post, claiming that I thought this number was a scam. Turns out that the company is legit, but unfortunately, as I have been using Optus Pre Paid for over 15 years, I was surprised to learn that I apparently had an overdue account for over $1700. AU. When I called them back, they compared my first name (I refused to give them any further information about myself), the reference number they provided, and my phone number, they conceded that they were chasing the wrong person for the debt and that they had the wrong phone number on record. That did not surprise me, as I have only had my mobile phone number for the past few months. It has been recycled. I am however bemused by how they are an agent for Optus, yet they do not know that Optus has given this phone number to another person and it no longer belongs to the person who owes the funds. That part should be obvious. Optus do not recycle numbers until they have been out of use for over 6 months, and I have had it for about 6 months. Considering that the person they are looking for has not been reachable on my number for about a year, and the fact that they no longer have an active Optus account due to the over due funds, then surely they would know that there is an issue. IF this company is trying to contact you via your mobile phone on behalf of Optus for an overdue account, then the chances are that they think you are someone else, which is ridiculous if they are attempting to use phone numbers from old overdue accounts, and assume that the person who owes for that account is still permitted by Optus to have that number and account active. Although the company itself may be legit, their debt collecting tactics are rather dodgy, outdated, and ridiculous. I do recommend anyone who has received a text from this number/company to contact them to resolve the issue, but I also recommend in being very careful about what information you supply them. There is a high probability that the number and person they believe they are contacting is not you. I will be complaining to an Ombudsman about this practice. I encourage anyone wrongfully accused to do the same.

I received a text message from a company named Binay. For months they have been sending me text messages offering me fast, short term loans, which I have ignored. Now all of a sudden they send me a text telling me I have an Optus account which is now overdue and is over $1700.00 AU which is REALLY RIDICULOUS, because..... I use Optus Pre Paid for my mobile phone accounts... Most definitely a scam.

says URGENT message for Clive Petersen. TO prevent escalation you must immediately call CCC on 1300 933 409 quoting 2329676.
My gut tells me it is a scam and I am NOT going to ring.
I searched CCC and apparently it is a collection agency for OPTUS? I owe nothing to anyone

cheers
