This number is legit, I had a call as well. A fraudulent transaction was made on my credit card and they cancelled my card. I verified this on my online banking.

It is definitely a scam. Dont ring back!! And a lot of the comments above are fraudulent also. Yes the Comm Bank are aware and are looking into it.

It is 100% legitimate - it is an automated service used to confirm any potentially suspicious activity on your accounts (see CommBank Facebook page where someone has also queried this phone number: https://www.facebook.com/commonwealthbank/posts/601941783152472). If calling the 132221 team, get them to type the number into their internal Directory of contacts & it will clearly show them this is a legitimate phone number of Group Security.

This number is NOT A SCAM. I received two blocked calls on my mobile and the automated message asked me to call the number. I was suspicious, checked this site and was even more suspicous. So instead I called the Commonwealth Bank on 132221. I pressed 1 for transaction information and was put through to a representative. I did not have to provide card numbers, account numbers or pins. Just my name and the answers to my two security questions. The rep checked my account and didn't see anything wrong - but she put me through to the security centre and they were indeed trying to contact me to confirm a transaction on my credit card. Took all of five minutes to get it all sorted.

I agree this is not the best way for a bank to contact you about possible fraudulent transactions, but at least they are onto these things straight away instead of the possible fraudulent transactions stacking up. Please don't ignore the call as a scam but if you have any doubts just ring the main Commonwealth Bank number.

This really is a scam they take the number from the ComBank website and make it look like it is the DO NOT answer or call back or download the app they want you to download- so sick of these bullsh*t calls!

Messages sent to me saying a card number was mine now blocked called them gave them the wrong date of birth because I don’t have a card ending in that number and I’m not a customer of them anyway so clearly scammers

It is a scam!!! Don't ring back. I had received that recorded message in my answer machine. Check the number here (and other web sites) some ppl would say it is legitimate, others not. I rang back - answer machine again - asking for further personal details- hung up and called cba 132221. It made me wait until i spoke to a real person who confirmed it was a scam and that cba would never call using an automatic machine. If in doubt, go to you printed statement, look for your bank official number and ring them up. I hope i saved you from this scammers!!!

I just had exactly the same thing happen. I called CWB on their normal 132221 number. After being on hold for 10mins was finally transferred to their fraud department, and yes - they were trying to contact me to confirm some transactions - that were actually legitimate transactions. I gave them feedback that they need to change the way the contact customers because SMS messages from random mobile numbers followed-up with professional-sounding voicemail messages asking us to call a 1300 number that's not published on the CWB official website is EXACTLY the method SPAMMERS would use to try to swindle us. He said they have received other feedback from customers along similiar lines and are working to correct it. C'mon CWB - don't confuse us by contacting us in the same way spammers would!

This is not a scam. I received 2 automated messages. As I was suspicious I rang the normal CBA number 132221 and the person I spoke to looked at my account and said they couldn't see any reason why the bank would be calling. A few days later I received the call again. I rang 132221 again but this time i was told that the bank does contact customers in this way. I was then put through to the relevant dept and they were querying credit card activity in case my card was stolen, which it wasn't. They confirmed that 1300 754 766 is a legit number. Obviously not all their staff know this! So it is safe to ring this number but if you have any doubts ring 132221.

Beware - the scammers will put messages on here saying it is legit. They will give a good story - but check with your bank on their proper branch number - or go in and see them. Don't give any information over the phone.

If they have hacked into you - or your bank - or your card - they will already have most of your information.

this number has been ringing me and have found out that it is the store manager from kmart penrith,he rings and asks for sexular things...he has been reported to the police.

I too received the call and was extremely suspicious. Checked it out via email query to the bank, who confirmed it was genuine. Decided to contact via the main Commonwealth Bank number 132221 and was advised that the check was due to unusual transactions they wanted to confirm were genuine. No issues at all. I suspect those people who are suggesting this is a scam are trying to stop you contacting the bank so they can continue to rip off the account. If in doubt, go through the main Commbank phone number.

I purchased airline tickets with QANTAS from an English website last night and started getting the automated calls today.
I rang CommBank and on the first call, they said that they didn't know the number. I then rang back later and was put through to the Fraud Department and they verified the number is not a scam. I then told them that I don't think the automated message is a good idea, so they took me off the "automated" list.

I then rang the 1300 754 566 number and confirmed that it did not ask for my credit card or any other details that a scammer would want.

Just ring the main line, 132221 and ask to be put through to the Fraud Department if you are worried.

This is NOT a scam, although reading comments on this page really freaked me out. After receiving a call from this number I went to a CBA branch to confirm that it was a legit number and they confirmed that yes it was. There were some dubious transactions that took place and they wanted to confirm that they were made by me.

Not a scam. Received this recorded voice message to call 1300 754 566. Had suspicion so called CBA on direct line 13221. Was put thru the security department whom verified that it is a legitimate 'low priority' call. Asked her to explain and she said that once their system picks up an unusual amount of transactions on the credit card, comparing to your normal spending pattern, it triggers the system to send out this message. We both verified all the purchases I made today (more than usual)on Netbank which was fine. If they believe the card is fraudulently used with high amount of purchases (ie jewelry store), then the bank will treat this as a high priority and will then block your card and call you up personally rather than sending out a recorded message. Good job CBA.

Confirmed as SCAM: I received an automated call this afternoon claiming to be from the Commonwealth Bank and asking me to call this number back urgently.

I was highly suspicious so rang 132221 (the real Commonwealth Bank). They confirmed that this is not one of their numbers and, on checking my account activity, they had no reason to contact me.

My advice is not to ring this number back and definitely do not provide any information about your accounts.

Those reporting on this site that this is not a scam are either scammers themselves or have been badly duped and don't yet know it.

Scam. Got one today, called 13221 and they confirmed nothing odd about my account, and have had a spate of people getting these calls
